Jurrjens is stuck in a rock and a hard place: his stuff dictates that he's more suited to be a starter, but his body just can't handle the innings. The Braves non-tendered him after last year and he caught on late in spring training with the Orioles but ended up having the same recurring knee issues. They let him opt-out of his minor league deal last week because they don't think he's got Major League ability anymore. The Tigers picked him up, but they're prolly his last hurrah. I doubt he makes it back to the majors. I wish the Braves would've sold high and traded him after the All-Star break '11 like they were pondering. I think he's won like 4 games since then
In response to the coming 50 game suspension of shortstop Jhonny Peralta, the Tigers have reportedly acquired slick fielding infielder Jose Iglesias from the Red Sox as part of a three-way deal with the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox.
At the moment, the deal is as follows - The White Sox will send starting pitcher Jake Peavy (8-4, 4.28 ERA) to the Red Sox, the Tigers will get Iglesias. No official word as to whom the White Sox will receive, though all signs point to the Tigers giving up outfield prospect Avisail Garcia. Currently playing with Triple-A Toledo, Garcia was pulled mid-game at the Tigers' request, leading credence to the reports.
Edit: Brayan Villarreal is also going to the Red Sox.
