If you hold Lee to the standards of Smoltz, Glavine and Maddux, yeah, he's probably going to come up a little bit short. But he still was a near-dominant pitcher. He blew up in 08, but still had a fantastic 05 season.

the funny part is that they weren't even *that* good some of those years. it's just that everyone else sucked in the the division. it wasn't until the 00's that they had much offense and by then, the pitchers were aging or leaving as free agents. the only years that i'm really bitter about were '97 (the eric gregg game) and 2000 (glavine and millwood got the flu during the ws). otherwise, they were just beaten by better teams. the marlins broke the bank to build a yankee-esque team in '97 and still finished second. the phils got the benefit of facing a braves team that was worn out from having to win 104 games just to beat the giants and advance. kudos to them, though.

the '91 world series was the greatest baseball series i've ever witnessed. it sucks they had to lose it.

The Phils were bottom of the barell in the late 90's early 00's... I thought the Braves had the squad to win more trophy's, they just ran into hotter teams kind of like what happened to the Phils last year when they ran into the Giants. Hopefully we win a few with this roster.

they're winning now because they have the money to lock up their stars. ever since ted turner sold the braves, every single fuckin' free agent has walked. there was even one year they gave away kevin millwood (coming off 18 wins) for a 26 year old minor league catcher because they couldn't afford him. it's frustrating.

yeah, thats what sucks about baseball, it seems when youre good, youre good for like a decade, but then you suck for about a decade also. Phillies are getting older. they have to win championships now. I still think they need to get a left fielder to take over for Ibanez, his droughts are awful this year. keep him on the bench, he'll be a good DH come playoffs.

baseball is screaming for a salary cap. it's so frustrating to watch the yanks, red sox, cubs and mets suck up all the good free agents every year.

yeah, good for us the cubs and mets still suck. Thats why I was so excited Lee turned down 50mil to come back here. hopefully that sets a standard for other players in MLB to try and win and not just get paid. But, Lee is one in a million, that isnt going to happen very often. Happy he came here, I just think we need another bat in the lineup.

Same with the Braves, they have a great rotation and an even better bullpen, but we don't have anyone capable of hitting 35+ HRs and 100 RBI a year, if we had that, it would be huge, i just hope Uggla steps up, and we need to get rid of Derek Lowe!

    Verlander \:D/

I'm thinking that as we reach the deadline we'll be looking at another starting pitcher unless Furbush shocks everyone as a spot starter.
